Inspired by nature, Lumache derives its name from the Italian word “lumaca,” meaning snail, due to its resemblance to a snail’s shell. Lumache is closely associated with southern and central Italy, where it became popular for its versatility in holding thick, chunky sauces with its ridged exterior and spiral-like curves that ensure every bite is packed with flavor. We’ve added Calabrian chili peppers that were grown and harvested in Calabria, Italy for a smoky, spicy depth of intensity that complements rather than overpowering other flavors in your dish.
Our spicy chili infused Lumache is made with organic semolina flour milled from durum wheat. A staple of traditional Italian pasta, semolina helps it also hold its shape well and gives each piece a wonderful al dente bite.

The Calabrian Lumache was a nice surprise. Just a little hot to the taste teamed with vodka sauce. Holds sauce all over.

I only bought one box of this because my expectations were low. I thought the spicy flavor would cook out. Boy, was I wrong. The pasta itself had a lovely spicy flavor. It had a beautiful spice mix and added balanced depth. I prepared a pork sauce using my favorite Rao’s marinara with sweet Italian sausage and crushed red pepper. It was delicious and satisfying.
Great and quite spicy - though maybe too spicy for some.
